“An Introduction to Maritime English” is an English language course designed to help everyone who is studying for a professional qualification related to sea borne trade, transport management and technology and to cargo work as well. The book is intended for intermediate students, i. e. students who have already studied the basic structures of English. Therefore, it is not suitable for complete beginners.
The course is divided into three sections: “Ships and Ports”, “Cargo Handling Facilities and Equipment” and “Cargo”. There are 20 texts grouped in 10 units. Each unit covers language work relevant to the topic of that unit. It offers about 10 – 12 hours class work. In order to help the student, the course aims to develop within themes related to maritime business listening skills, reading skills, writing skills and communicating skills. It also aims to build up the learner’s vocabulary of words and phrases related to maritime activities.
